Honor Awards
Held annually at the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City, the Honor Awards recognize achievements made in the field of Historic Preservation around Missouri.
The Honor Awards are key to Missouri Preservation’s mission to advocate for historic preservation. Not only do they celebrate success, they also show our state legislators that preservation is possible and that programs like the Historic Tax Credit and State Historic Preservation Office are important contributors to Missouri’s future.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can submit a nomination for an honor award?
Honor Award nominations can be submitted by any interested party, including nominating yourself or your organization. All we ask is that the nomination forms are completed and include all of the requested information.
Who selects the Honor Award recipients?
The Honor Award recipients are selected by a panel made up of Missouri Preseration board members, former award winners, and any others who may be interested in participating. This group encompasses a variety of professional backgrounds and come from all parts of the state. The Rozier Award is selected by previous recpients of the Rozier Award.
What should I include with my nomination?
The best nominations are the ones that have all of the requested information included. Sometimes committee members are familiar with histories or projects, but often the only information they have to go on is the information provided in the nomination. If you think a person/project is deserving of an award, be sure that your nomination reflects that! Not only does this information help the committee select recipients, it is also what the staff uses to tell the world about the awardees.
What is the best way to submit my nomination?
The best way to submit your nomination form and supporting materials is by uploading the information to a GoogleDrive, Dropbox, SharePoint, etc. and emailing us that link (avoid using the “share” option directly through the service, as sometimes those emails can end up in spam). Sending this link through an email allows us to check if we can access the materials, and if not, we can contact you right away.
Who does the award go to?
We often see some confusion regarding whom the award is actually recognizing. While each and every nomination is slightly different, we wanted to sum up the general idea for everyone.
For the Overby Award and the Preserve Missouri Award, we generally list the award recipient as the name of the printed work or the name of the project. Ex. “A.A. Fischer’s St. Louis Streetscapes” as an Overby Award recipient and “The Victor” rehabilitation project as a Preserve Missouri Award recipient. This allows us to recognize more than one project from a person/organization over the years, and in the case of large projects the use of a single title allows us to encompass all of the people behind it, as preservation is most often a group effort!
The Rozier Award
Named in honor of Elizabeth McReynolds Rozier, one of the founding members of Missouri Preservation and a noted Jefferson City Preservationist, the Rozier Award was established to recognize individuals who have made significant achievements in the field of historic preservation in Missouri. This is Missouri Preservation’s most prestigious annual award.

Osmund Overby Award
The Overby Award was established to recognize published works that contribute to the documentation and interpretation of Missouri’s architectural history. It honors Dr. Osmund Overby, Art History Professor Emeritus and former head of the historic preservation program at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Dr. Overby was a founding member of Missouri Preservation, lifetime board and advisory board member and a nationally recognized leader in historic preservation.

McReynolds Awards
The McReynolds Awards, named in honor of Elizabeth McReynolds Rozier, are given annually to individuals or groups who have made significant achievements in the field or are in the midst of a long-term preservation project, creating synergy in the field of historic preservation. The McReynolds awards are among the most important awards given out each year by the organization.

Preserve Missouri Awards
The Preserve Missouri awards recognize outstanding efforts and projects around the state. Suggested categories include, but are not limited to: Commercial Revitalization, Institutional/Civic Building Restoration, Neighborhood Revitalization, Residential Rehabilitation, Historic Landscape Preservation, Rural Preservation, and Preservationist-in-Action.
