Tax Credit 101

This workshop provides the very basics of the Federal and Missouri sTate tax credit programs. Topics discussed include: determination of eligibility for proposed projects and basic requirements of the program, including the documentation of existing conditions, and describing the scope of work as it adheres to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for rehabilitation work. Work on a draft application will be included, and accounting and cost documentation/verification practices will also be discussed.

This workshop is worth 1.25 AIA Continuing Education Credits for any AIA registered architects that wish to attend.

As a part of our field service outreach, Missouri Preservation along with the city of Jackson sponsored an evening workshop on Missouri’s Historic Preservation Tax Credit in November 2017. Conducted by Missouri Preservation’s executive director Bill Hart, the seminar concentrated on basics of the state’s program incentives for the reuse and renovation of historic buildings for modern uses. A brief history of the program was presented, along with numbers detailing the economic stimulus the program has brought to communities statewide through private investment in building improvements, contribution to quality of life, job production and tax base building. Other topics included documenting existing conditions an finished product, planning the work, categorizing and documenting expenses, design issues and standards for the treatment of historic properties in the renovation process.
