2019 Unhappy Hour

Join Missouri Preservation for the announcement of the 2019 Places in Peril list!

Help us celebrate the possibilities of preservation!

The Unhappy Hour announcement will be made at HyVee Arena*, a former Place in Peril and a recipient of a 2019 Missouri Preservation Honor Award.

Visit displays dedicated to each of the listings and learn how you can help save these places for future generations of Missourians. Leave words of encouragement or ideas for a property’s future.

This year we welcome local preservation advocates Historic Kansas City and KC Modern who will share their 2019 Endangered Places lists.

Tickets are $40/person and include a BBQ dinner and (2) drink tickets, with a cash bar after. Tickets can be purchased through the link below or find our links on social media for a special discount!

* Formerly known as the Kemper Arena, Chicago-based architect Helmut Jahn designed the arena, considered a “revolutionary” design for its time. Consisting of a superstructure which includes “three oversized trusses that rise from the berm to cross the mass of the building” with a secondary system of bar joists and trusses hanging from the superstructure to carry the load of the roof deck, this approach allows a 324-foot clear span inside the arena. The arena opened in 1974 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. The Kemper Arena was once included on several Most Endangered lists, but now, thanks to preservationists like you and the Foutch Brothers, Kansas City has retained yet another important structure in American architecture.

A big thank you to our supporters for helping us put on this event!
