Campbell House Museum » Preservation Resource Directory

This directory is intended to help the general public find people with expertise in various aspects of historic preservation, be it planning, design, development, financing, tax credits, National Register nominations or accounting as well as museums, venues and other preservation or history-related organizations. Full listings are made up of major donors to our organization and are intended to recognize these people and companies for their generosity to the cause of historic preservation in Missouri. Partial listings are individuals or companies that have given in the past or have affiliated with past-recognized projects, etc. It is NOT AN ENDORSEMENT of any of the companies or individuals mentioned.

   We strongly urge you to obtain competitive bids and get references before the start of any building rehabilitation project.

Biography

Built in 1851, the first house in the ele­gant Lucas Place neigh­bor­hood, the Camp­bell House was the home of renowned fur trader and entre­pre­neur Robert Camp­bell and his fam­ily from 1854 until 1938. The museum con­tains hun­dreds of orig­i­nal Camp­bell pos­ses­sions includ­ing fur­ni­ture, paint­ings, cloth­ing, let­ters, car­riages and a unique set of inte­rior pho­tographs taken in the mid-1880s. The Museum opened in 1943 and between 2000-2005 underwent a meticulous $3.5 million restoration.
