Developer Selected for Rehab of the Parsons House, from Missouri’s 2015 Historic Places in Peril.

Last week, Historic City of Jefferson sold the historic property at 105 Jackson Street to LN Construction. Known as the Parsons House, this home has a history in our community dating back to the mid-1800s.The property was first put out to bid by the Jefferson City Housing Authority in late 2018. After more than a year without a viable bid being received, HCJ grew concerned about the building’s fate. The HCJ Board decided in late 2019 to purchase the building and begin exterior stabilization efforts on it with the goal of making it more appealing to a developer at a future date.Shortly after purchasing the property but before work started, HCJ began talks with a developer to purchase the building in its current state and rehab it. Although the conversation did not advance with that developer, in mid-summer HCJ found Chris Stepnoski with LN Construction and the process started moving forward again.Chris is the owner of LN Construction which is currently working on another historic home in the community. A resident of the Lake of the Ozarks, Chris and his wife are hoping to move to Jefferson City soon.Rather than spending money on rehabbing the historic home, HCJ decided the best use of resources would be to sell the house to LN Construction and offer a three-phase grant for benchmarks that are reached during the rehab process.HCJ will continue to bring you updates as we watch this special transformation! For more information on this project, check out the Winter edition of the HCJ Newsletter which will be mailed at the end of November.
