SUMMARY:Historic Window Restoration Presentation + Workshop
DESCRIPTION:CoMo Preservation and True North Preservation invite you to a two-day event of education and hands-on training as you learn the art of historic window preservation. Historic windows are some of the most endangered features in historic buildings and are often unnecessarily replaced when they can be repaired.  This workshop offers people of all skill levels a chance to learn about the history of windows in America and gives participants an opportunity for a hands-on experience that can be used to save these historic resources. \nThe event includes a presentation at 6:00pm on Friday\, June 12th\, which is free\, open to the public and explores the history and preservation of windows in the United States. The venue for the presentation is First Christian Church at 101 N. 10th Street\, Columbia\, MO 65201. The event continues on Saturday\, June 13th with a hands-on workshop component from 9am-3:30pm. The venue for the workshop is Sawdust Studios at 3150 Paris Rd\, Columbia\, MO 65202. This technical workshop will teach participants how to assess historic windows for preservation and will go into detail about disassembling a window for its restoration. The hands-on workshop portion of the event is $75 per participant. All participants will experience training in paint removal\, glazing\, glass cutting\, and finish preparations. Reservations are required for this 2-day event. Choose between the free presentation-only option or the presentation + workshop ($75 per participant). Reserve your spot below. \nNote: American Institute of Architects (AIA) credits are pending approval as of 3/22/26. \nLunch and snacks will be provided on Saturday. Participants are asked to wear long pants and sleeves\, close-toed shoes and bring their own respirators\, if they have them. Nitrile gloves\, N95 masks\, and safety goggles will be provided by the hosts for participants. Accessibility Notice: If you have mobility concerns or require accommodations\, please contact us in advance so we can assist in making necessary arrangements. \nMarie Taylor is a historic window restoration professional who has spent the last three years owning and operating True North Preservation\, a wood and metal window restoration business based out of Cape Girardeau\, Missouri. Her goal is to empower homeowners and community members with the skills needed to both understand historic windows and advocate for their repair.
